    I will resist the urge to write avant garde fic. Nothing good ever comes of that. >________< (FR fandom for those who are curious)

    In other news, there is no news. -_-;; I've been watching the Palin weirdness with fascinationg (and of course keeping up on Iran), but other than that I've been doing my job, working on the tarot cards when I have the time (amazingly, they are progressing!), and other than that...nothing much.

    I should post a sketch or something to make my journal less boring. Anyone have any requests? Preferably something I can sketch whilst at work, though not necessarily? Comic ideas and things outside my normal purview are acceptable.

    Happy birthday [info]krkornblum87!

    And just for the more Les Mis/history geeks of you, this is the cake I got her:

    Rather shocked squee!

    I got a 173 on the LSAT. ^_^; Much better than I was fearing!

    *still can't quite believe it's real*

    *pleased, though*

    Is it just me, or is every single GOP senator in existence A, cheating on their significant other and B, getting found out about it in increasingly dumb ways?

    o_____O? I mean, really, WTF? Bad enough he went AWOL for a very long walk...then on a plane trip...now apparently he was also having an affair. Is Sanford TRYING to commit political suicide? Because if so: bravo, well done, mission accomplished. *shakes head*

    (Ironically, I don't give a damn about the adultery, but the sheer amount of stupid put into a single week is just beyond absurd.)

    Why is it that every time I decide that I need to lose a few pounds I promptly get assaulted with pastries? I mean, really. I have one, ONE, weakness on the dessert scale, and that's hot pastries - I don't really like chocolate, ice cream, cake, frosting, excessively sugary cupcakes...but pastries. Always the pastries.

    Last time I decided to start a diet, I got a complimentary slice of blueberry pie, hot from the oven, served with a side of delicious homemade vanilla icecream.

    This time, homemade brownies and coffeecake and turnovers. I'm ignoring the cake offering. There's no reason for it either, someone at my work just decided to bring some in.

    Bah!

    *goes to eat pastries and sigh with happiness, but it is the happiness of RAGE*

    Update on Iran: The military seem to be wavering - there are reports of them helping the protesters, at least some of them. French Revolution geeks, I don't need to tell you why that makes me grin.

    Also, the Ahmadinejad rally seems to have been partially photoshopped to look bigger. http://kheirkhah.ir/media/Image/Weblog%202/Keyhan-ehtics.jpg

    In other news, CNN, CNBC, and Fox are all morons. Fox reporters had a quote saying "Oh, um, this guy hates that guy..." and claimed that "the recount will take a long time because all their names are so long". *roll eyes* CNBC just had a reporter claim that the Employee Free Choice Act (letting unions just have a signed card rather than secret ballot) would lead to a similiar rigged election i.e. like the one that says Ahmadinejad won. The brain, it boggles. -_-;; Even if you don't like the Employee Free Choice Act - and I have a few doubts on it myself - that's just really stupid reporting and somewhat insulting to the protesters. And viewers.

    ...I really should get back to work. *sigh* I hate the fact that this is the ONLY not-work thing I've had the energy for, and that's because I do it while I'm at work.

    EDIT: Marines have protected a popular leader from arrest, reportedly. Also, unconfirmed reports of military refusing to shoot protesters. Also, soccer team wearing green wristbands today - team is also currently winning (as far as I know) and there was a small interruption in the twitters from Iran for them to shout "goal!". Ah, soccer. ^_^

    The Revolution is Being Twittered
    Have been following along Iran election violence/green revolution/call it what you will with utter fascination.

    Quick update for those not following as obsessively as me (which I really ought not do, given that I'm, well, at work; but I've been working all day with 5 min breaks so I think I'm okay)

    It may be slightly incoherent; sorry. ^^ Attempting to work + read + type. Besides, this is just a summary; more info is available on most news stations. (I recommend the Guardian if you want to go with the big ones)

    Favorite quote of the day: "the urban youth of Tehran behaving like it's May 1968 in Paris"

    Iran election fail )

    I have been falling asleep at 10:30/11 recently. I very much dislike this, because usually the first time I can get online is at 10. Not to mention the extreme sleepiness all day is making me unable to do anything creative. *grumble* Bah, inner clock. I would be FINE if I didn't keep waking up at 7AM no matter WHAT I do. >_

    Random (historically geeky) musings
    Today, while walking near work, I saw a plaque dedicated to one "Dampierre", some important French person of sorts. (I looked then, but have since forgotten it)

    My mind immediately made the following jump:

    Dampierre = Dhampir (a half-vampire, half-human)
    Robespierre ancestry myth = Robert Pierre
    Robert Dhampir = Robert Dampierre
    Descendents = Robe-Dampierre => Robespierre
    Conclusion: Robespierre has a little smidgen of vampire blood, just enough to make him a bit weirded out about blood.

    Further conclusion: I = Geek.

    Started my summer internship today. I like it; the people are very nice, the work is not terribly boring and there's the promise of more interesting stuff to come...

    But I am struck with one thought, though:

    I have a corner office, a shiny new email, a building pass key and I bill my hours. Have I sold my soul?

    I'm terribly, terribly sick. ;_; Seriously, it's ridiculous, I'm curled up on the bed half the time for the last three days and I've had to cancel any number of things.

    Getting better slowly but surely, although my brain is still completely fried.

    Also...

    I wish I was either a year older or that sci-fi club wasn't sometimes completely dismissive of underage people. I want to go to sci-fi club this week TOO, damnit! It's not fair that it's being held somewhere I can't go. And if they hold it in a bar this week, then they'll probably hold it in a bar every week for the summer because it's more convenient for the people who want to drink, but my 21st birthday isn't until November and I don't drink anyway. >_____<

    Bad enough I missed scifi last week due to my sister's party, but...;_;

    In short: *sick and miserable*

    10:16 am
    This has been an insanely busy but rather fun week.

    The busy part:
    I finished finals and was able to start relaxing! Except not, because my LSAT class started the day after and I've had to run around frantically to get a job and BOTH of my sisters' birthdays are this month - one is tomorrow, gaaaah - and I haven't gotten presents and I still haven't filled out that application that should have been in the day school was over..x_x

    I'm sorry to everyone I've missed talking to, I promise to do better as soon as humanly possible.

    Anyway.

    The fun parts:

    1) I took a practice LSAT last Sat. and got a 175 on it. I have since been to one of the classes - gah, insanely slow and boring - and have gotten a small "talk" about how I might not want to be in the class (the average score of the rest of the class is 153. Hee). I was very pleased, and will be calling them today to see if I can get the hell out of that class.

    2) Two As! (and the rest yet to be determined, though who knows) One - American Rev - was not unexpected; the other - Classical Political and Constitutional Thought - was very surprising, given that they grade very, very hard in that one and give very hard assignments (2.5 pages to argue first why constitutions require extraordinary measures to survive, then to argue that extraordinary measures undermine said constitution, in an ancient context using examples AND defining all of my terms, like "constitution", "people", etc. = NOT ENOUGH SPACE!)

    3) Geek joy: I made something that became insanely popular on fandom!secrets. :) If anyone here follows along there, I'll tell you, but you should be able to guess - it has my standard drawing style. There's even a community now for it, and fanart! And offers of fanfiction! And at least 4 marriage offers, 3 "I want to have your babies" and 1 "Sex, any time you want it!" offers - thus far. *pleased at all the compliments*

    ^______^ Lots of good, then.

    I promise to be online more often as soon as humanly possible - I have to go home to help with my sister's b-day tomorrow (she's turning 8. Hard to believe, really, for two reasons: one, she can't be eight, she can't be that big! I remember her being born!; and two: there is no way she's still eight. When asked what her "specialty" is in one of her classes, where everyone else was putting "soccer" and "piano" and "drawing", she said, "English literature!" then complained that everyone else was being too babyish. I told my parents that we have another humanities kid in the house, no doubt about it. ^^) but I should be on IM later today - albeit sans any type of access to my files - anyway.

    That fic is being worked on, [info]maelicia, I promise! Really, at this rate, I probably ought to promise to illustrate the damn thing, too, to make it up to you, it's so late. ;_;

    Happy birthday Maxime! Much love from your devoted fans. ^___^

    It's customary in my family to give the birthday person in question a nice tray with all of their favorite foods, so my dorm (well, me, with my roommate's assistance and timely reminder) decided to make one in your honor.

    (Also, never, ever remind me of a birthday when I'm still high on final-exam-adrenaline if you want the reaction to be within the realms of "sane" or "cheap"...)

    And a close up of the pastries:

    My roommate bought me an assignat today. 5 livres worth, printed 10 Brumaire Year II.

    *squee of the mad history geek*

    I get far too happy about the little things in life, but hey, what's the point of life without the little things that make you happy?

    I'm sure everyone here has heard about the Amazon thing...I was thinking of contributing, but apparently Amazon has declared that it was a glitch and that it's being fixed. If this is true, fine, it happens. If not, they're bastards. (if they did it on purpose hoping that no one would notice and then restored it because of the outcry, good on us)

    Besides, the whole Amazon Rank thing already hit #1 on the search. ^^;

    A few things to report today! One is my regular plea for assistance, but I think this one might be easier for people to help with:

    Can anyone give me a link to Saint-Just's speech in which he says that the nation wants active citizens only/enemies of the revolution include both those actively against and those passive above helping it? (as you can see, I don't know the exact quote...)

    Also, any speech dealing with that basic subject would be very helpful; in addition, does anyone know where I can find any of the speeches/reports on the renaming of the provinces, the calender, and declaring it as "year I/II"?

    The Saint-Just quote is most important right now, but any help is very, very much welcomed!

    EDIT: Gah, just realised I need something else. Does anyone know about the sumptuary laws passed? You know, the ones that said "everyone neesd to wear a tricolor!" etc.

    ---

    Second part: We had a nice Seder on Wednesday; my sister actually stayed the whole way through! ^_____^ This is very good, she's never been able to manage it before. The reason she stayed was because she wanted the Afikoman present, of course, but the fact that she was willing to stay for that is a huge step forward. Yaaaaaaaay!

    Too much work. Don't want to do it. >____________<

    I feel five and pouty. It was grey but not raining all day, and my back went into spasms right in the middle of classes to-day, which made it hard to sit in a chair. Not a good thing at all. >_>

    Why does my body always try to break at the most inconvenient times? -_-;; I'm tired and stressed and need to pick classes, talk to people, etc. etc. etc. Too much to do. *sigh*

    ...this is not coherent, but that's because I just "woke up" from an unsuccessful nap.

    Hello, all! I was wondering if anyone knows of any fic based at the Paris Commune? In particular Louise Michel/Victor Hugo, but any Communard fic would be just great.

    (I hope this post isn't illegitimate for the community; I've seen posts like this before, but if the mods object I will be happy to delete it)

    Thanks a lot!

    PIC: In the Dark of the Night
    Hallo, all! I finally finished the picture that's been driving me up the wall - it's not perfect and I'm still not 100% happy with it, but at this point I think there's not much I can do with it. I'll do better next time, though. ^^;

    It's not a particularly COMPLICATED scene, mind you, just annoying. And that background...! It's much more complex than it looks. >_>

    Hope everyone likes it! Robespierre/Saint-Just as usual, in case anyone had any doubts.

    And yes, the song title is almost entirely unrelated; I just felt like being silly. ^^

    As usual, I'm procrastinating. And what does one do when procrastinating? In this case, write more vampire porn for the VC kink meme.

    Posting here as usual.

    For the entry "Lestat/Daniel, what happens AFTER the movie (Interview with a Vampire)."

    Warnings: This is movie-verse, as per the request. I did not use book!Daniel, I used movie!Daniel. I used movie!Lestat. I used movie!chronology. Please keep this in mind while reading; you'll probably understand it better...also, this is NSFW. Please keep this in mind.
